1980's Kitchen Remodel - Part 1 - From 80's to Traditional Farmhouse. Let's get straight to the point, our former kitchen was hideous. It was straight out of the 1980's in all of it's cherry oak-cabinet glory. It would have fit right in with all of the Property Brothers' befores.

Amazing how modern those 1980s kitchen cabinets look when painted out. And, yes, Susan tells us painting the melamine worked — the brush strokes even look.

Tips for Updating 80’s Kitchen
The house was built in 1982 and the cabinets are definitely of that time period. The top and bottom of the each cabinet door is curved [photo below], so even if I repaint/restain, they'll look dated. I can't even remove the cabinet doors and do open shelving because the door cutouts themselves are curved as well.

Painting 80s kitchen cabinets with a sprayer: Remove the doors from the hinges. Clean the cabinet doors and cabinet boxes really well. Tape off your work area. Paint using an oil-based enamel paint (I used a sprayer for this particular cabinet project) Add new hardware. Take stunning "after" photos!
