The Kruger National Park is a South African National Park and one of the largest game reserves in Africa.. It was also decided to tarmac the surface of arterial roads and the first tarmac road from Numbi Gate to Pretoriuskop and Skukuza was opened in 1965. With better roads, more of the park was opened throughout the year, Skukuza from 1962.

The Numbi Gate is located 428km from Johannesburg in the south west of the Kruger National Park, and offers the easiest access point from nearby Nelspruit. Numbi Gate is in the south-western section of Kruger National Park. It's a good gate to enter the park by if you're heading towards Skukuza Rest Camp (which a lot of people are, as it's the biggest camp in the park!). The nearest accommodation to the gate however, is Pretoriuskop Rest Camp. This camp is only a distance of 9km (6 miles) away.
