The garlic is usually clean looking, and I don't wash it. What you DO want is to peel off the outer layers of skin, as little as you can afford to, basically. This is probably not crucial, however. Remember, this way of pickling is very user-friendly. Once all your garlic is immersed, seal the jar and put it in a cool, dark place.

The Garlic House. We went out to dinner last night with some friends..we went to the Garlic house. IT WAS SO GOOD!!! It is located in Naha which is on the southern end of the island. It only look like 20 minutes to get there..and traffic was not that bad. We went with empty stomachs and a taste for LOTS of garlic!

When visiting the shop, the sweet smell of garlic permeates the air all the way to the parking lot making one's mouth water even before entering the shop. The chickens turning on the rotisserie only increase the appetite! The prices are very reasonable. A whole chicken costs ¥1,700 (¥1800 from Dec.1st) and is large enough to serve 2 or 3.

Take bus number 28 or 29 from Bus Stop 3 at the Naha Bus Terminal to Mihama American Village Iriguchi. It takes about 40 minutes. By car, it takes about 30 minutes driving north on Route 58. It may take significantly longer at rush hour, however.
