Haunting Mids Fuzz Collection! BSRI Audio Reverb

The Haunting Mids Fuzz was developed around 2005 by a group of DIY pedal fans who set up a private forum, which I'm guessing was dedicated to the development of the Haunting Mids circuit. I say "guess" because I was never a member though I had heard of the forum. Not sure when but the Haunting Mids forum died and went away.

So far, Haunting Mids have been releasing a new pedal about every 18 months and only a few have made it out there into the big world of pedals. Some say the Haunting Mids pedals released so far are the HMv1 (single knob phaser), the HMv2 (single knob octave sustainer ringmod thingy) and more recently, the HMv3 (single knob delay).

The Haunting Mids Fuzz uses the first three transistor stages of the original circuit but drops the tone stack and output buffer. It also changes up the regular diodes for some more carefully chosen diodes in the clipping stages. What you hear is the raw distortion from the circuit without any filtering. The original circuit uses a single.

Morbid Fur/Haunting Mids Fuzz. This is my version of the Haunting Mids Fuzz, which itself is a variation of the Big Muff. Ugly Face by Tim Escobedo. Ugly Face is a classic raucous square wave synthesizer masquerading as a "fuzz" pedal. It's really more of a guitar synth than than a fuzz pedal in my opinion. Building the Ugly Face is like.

Mid-frequency Preamp Pedal. The JHS Haunting Mids pedal is great for manipulating the midrange character of any drive, fuzz, or boost pedal. Its continuously sweepable midrange center (400Hz-7.5kHz), broad/narrow Q toggle, and 15dB of boost/cut go a long way in carving out space for other voices in a mix or making sure your solos are heard from the back row.

This is a Haunting Mids v3. Not the JHS pedal it is the original. The circuit is a modified Big Muff at its core. The gain and clipping diodes are optimized at each of the clipping stages and the tone stack and output buffer have been removed. This makes for a very raw organic Big Muff with massive sustain.

4 transistor fuzz, NPN silicon into Ge PNP into NPN Si into Ge PNP. Some attenuation per stage, has a mid boost if you want it using the miller cap/emitter bypass combination. 2 gain settings, boost and distortion/fuzz. Can kill most amps with high output. Cleans nicely but tons of gain is there.

Haunting Mids V3. Straight from the music forum equivalent of the Freemasons, without the funny handshake but your membership can be black-balled. The original has a trimmer for gain but I have put this as an external pot for my own personal preference in muff-like pedals. If you'd prefer to keep it authentic then remove the wires and either.
